Mangrove, mangrove rice and mangrove people (PhD Scholarship - European Commission - DeSIRA Program)

Work Plan: After the academic year at ISA, the successful candidate will participate in the activities of the project “Mangrove, mangrove rice and mangrove people - sustainably improving rice production, ecosystems and livelihoods”, namely: a) Study of fish, oysters, crabs and shrimps’ populations, and of plankton in the rice fields and surrounding mangroves, identification of the risks they are facing, systematization of local farmers-fisherwomen and men knowledge, attitudes and practices, participatory development of sustainable aquatic fauna management and aquaculture practices; b) Team work with other PhD students of the project; c) Writing disciplinary and interdisciplinary articles with other PhD students of the project. The last year will be spent at the ISA and the IRD performing data analysis and writing the final version of the articles and of the thesis.
